Individuel, inspired by Montblanc Individuel (2003)

Individuel sets cool herbs against a cocoa-tinged sweetness. Pineapple, bergamot and mint open it alongside lavender and rosemary, while cinnamon and coriander add spice. Violet and jasmine give the middle a powdery floral tone. The drydown leans on amber, vanilla and a note of dark chocolate, kept from turning heavy by vetiver and oakmoss.

About the original

Individuel launched in 2003 and is usually credited to Pierre Bourdon, although Montblanc itself does not publish the attribution. It is the men's fragrance, not Femme Individuelle, the women's Montblanc scent that some retailers shorten to Individuelle. Today it is absent from Montblanc's own website and from the brand page of Interparfums, the licensee, so it appears to have been withdrawn. Some discount retailers still carry existing stock.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Montblanc stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Database reviews point to daytime wear, and the mood is relaxed and approachable rather than formal. The sweetness is real, coming from fruit, vanilla and chocolate, so men who prefer dry woods or crisp citrus may find it too soft-edged.

The opening is the busiest part: pineapple and bergamot with mint, lavender, rosemary and juniper, spiced by cinnamon, cardamom and coriander.

Violet, geranium, jasmine and orange blossom form a lightly powdered floral heart.

The base mixes amber, vanilla, dark chocolate and raspberry with sandalwood, patchouli, vetiver, oakmoss and musk.

Is Montblanc Individuel discontinued?

It no longer appears in Montblanc's official range or on the licensee's brand page, so it appears to have been discontinued, although we have found no announcement from the brand.

Is this Individuel or Femme Individuelle?

This is the men's Individuel from 2003. Femme Individuelle is a separate women's fragrance by Montblanc.

Does it smell of chocolate?

Dark chocolate is listed in the base and adds a cocoa shading to the vanilla and amber. It is a supporting note, not a dessert accord.

Is Montblanc Individuel coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Montblanc that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
