Valentino Uomo Edition Noire, inspired by Valentino Uomo Edition Noire (2015)

Bergamot opens it alongside myrtle, a Mediterranean shrub with a resinous, slightly medicinal leaf. Then comes the gourmand centre: gianduja, the Italian blend of chocolate and hazelnut paste, with roasted coffee beans. Underneath sits a pale, smooth leather and cedar. The sweetness is real but kept dry by the coffee and woods.

About the original

Valentino released Edition Noire in March 2015 as a matte black version of Valentino Uomo (2014), with Olivier Polge credited. It was presented as a limited edition eau de toilette. Sources disagree on whether the scent itself was changed or only the bottle: one launch report says the composition matched the 2014 Uomo, while another describes added spice and musk. The parent Valentino Uomo eau de toilette is now listed as discontinued on Valentino's US beauty site.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Valentino stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Coffee and chocolate lovers who want something less sugary than a dessert scent will find it a good match. The hazelnut and chocolate are clearly noticeable, so anyone who dislikes gourmand notes should look elsewhere.

It is sweet in a roasted, nutty way. Coffee, leather and cedar keep it from feeling sugary.

Is Valentino Uomo Edition Noir coming back?

It was a limited edition. So far, we have found no announcement from Valentino about a re-release. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
