La Vie Est Belle En Rose, inspired by Lancôme La Vie est Belle en Rose (2019)

Red berries and bergamot open it, given a lift by pink pepper. The rose in the name is surprisingly discreet; peony and lily of the valley give the heart a fresh, petal-like lightness instead. As it develops it loses some of the berry sweetness of the opening and becomes cleaner and more see-through. Underneath, sandalwood, iris and musk keep the base light.

About the original

Dominique Ropion and Anne Flipo, who created the original La Vie est Belle, composed this eau de toilette for its February 2019 launch. Lancôme presented it as a fresher, more luminous and floral version of the 2012 original, with Julia Roberts again in the campaign. One perfume critic noted that berries and a green blackcurrant-leaf note stand out far more than the rose. Rose Extraordinaire, a later rose flanker that Lancôme still sells, is a different fragrance. En Rose itself no longer appears in Lancôme's range, and its remaining product pages show it out of stock.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Lancôme stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Its lighter, more transparent build makes it the easy-going member of the La Vie est Belle family. Fans of the original's gourmand richness may find it thin, and anyone expecting a lush rose will notice how fruity and green it is instead.

Bergamot, pink pepper and red berries give the first minutes a tart, sparkling lift.

Peony leads the heart with lily of the valley, while centifolia and damask rose sit quietly behind. A green, blackcurrant-leaf quality keeps it from turning sweet.

It dries down to sandalwood, iris, patchouli and musk, clean and fairly sheer.

Is La Vie est Belle en Rose discontinued?

It is no longer listed in Lancôme's La Vie est Belle range, and its remaining official product pages show it out of stock.

Is it the same as La Vie est Belle Rose Extraordinaire?

No. En Rose is the 2019 eau de toilette with red berries and peony. Rose Extraordinaire is a separate, later flanker.

Is it as sweet as the original La Vie est Belle?

No. It starts fruity but turns lighter and cleaner, without the heavy gourmand base of the 2012 original.

Is Lancôme La Vie Est Belle En Rose coming back?
