Nero Assoluto, inspired by Roberto Cavalli Nero Assoluto (2013)

Orchid gives the opening a velvety, rounded floral tone, less perfumed than rose and less heady than jasmine. Black vanilla follows, and with ebony wood in the base the result is the dark floral-woody character the launch coverage describes. The wood gives the vanilla a dense, polished frame.

About the original

Nero Assoluto was announced in August 2013 as a flanker of the 2012 Roberto Cavalli Eau de Parfum, with Louise Turner credited as perfumer. It came in a black bottle with gold detailing and a tiger-stripe pattern. Some retailers, such as Rossmann, now label it Signature Nero Assoluto. It remains in the range under Interparfums, which took over the licence in 2023.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Roberto Cavalli stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

One retailer places it in the evening, where its dark vanilla and wood make sense. Vanilla sceptics will struggle with it, since it is one of only three listed notes.

Yes, Roberto Cavalli still sells it, and some retailers list it as Signature Nero Assoluto. Both names refer to the 2013 women's eau de parfum.

Vanilla runs through it, but it is described as a dark floral-woody scent rather than a dessert-like gourmand, with orchid and ebony wood alongside the vanilla.
