London, inspired by Tom Ford London (2013)

Spices hit first: cumin leads, followed by saffron, cardamom, black pepper and coriander, with a touch of coffee. Incense then takes over the heart, alongside jasmine, geranium and cistus resin. The base is smoky and resinous, built from oud, birch tar and Atlas cedar, with musk and torchwood adding a slightly animalic warmth.

About the original

Tom Ford created London for the opening of its London store in September 2013, and for its first six months it was sold only there. It later joined the wider Private Blend range. The scent is no longer on Tom Ford's US or UK sites, and production reportedly ended around 2018, although that date is unconfirmed. It is unrelated to other fragrances called London, such as Burberry's.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Tom Ford stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Cumin is the deciding factor: it is prominent in the opening and some people find it sweaty or savoury. Once it settles, incense and smoke take over. Smoky, resinous drydowns of this kind are not for those who prefer clean or fresh scents.
