Terre De Lumiere, inspired by L'Occitane en Provence Terre de Lumière (2016)

L'Occitane calls this its first 'gourmand aromatic' fragrance, meaning a dessert-like sweetness paired with herbs. Bergamot and pink pepper give a zesty, prickly start before lavender honey moves in: floral lavender with a golden, syrupy edge. Acacia flower and ambrette seed, a plant source of musk with a faintly pear-like tone, keep the middle from turning cloying. Underneath, tonka bean and bitter almond lend a marzipan-and-hay roundness.

About the original

Terre de Lumière went on sale in travel retail in November 2016 and reached wider distribution in February 2017, which is why some sources date it to 2017. The brand says it was inspired by Provençal light. Several flankers followed, including L'Eau (2017), an eau de toilette, Intense and a Gold Edition, each with a different concentration or note list; this page refers to the original eau de parfum.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not L'Occitane en Provence stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Lovers of rich, sweet scents are the audience L'Occitane itself names, and it reads noticeably sweeter than the brand's citrus and floral lines. Honey and tonka make it enveloping rather than fresh. Honey and almond can feel heavy to some noses, so it is a poor match for anyone who keeps to crisp colognes.

Bergamot and pink pepper open it with a lively lift, and ambrette seed adds a musky, slightly fruity undertone.

Lavender honey and acacia flower form the heart: herbal and floral at once, with a sticky golden sweetness.

Tonka bean, bitter almond and white musk make up the drydown, balsamic and smooth.

Is this the original Terre de Lumière or a flanker?

The original eau de parfum from 2016. L'Eau, the eau de toilette, Intense and Gold Edition are separate versions with different concentrations or notes.
