Light My Fire

Light My Fire, inspired by Kilian Paris Light My Fire (2014)

Light My Fire was built around the image of a cigar smoked on an evening in Monaco. Cumin comes first, and on some skins it reads briefly sweaty before hay and tobacco leaf dry it out. Wild honey, vanilla and heliotrope sit in the middle, adding a sweet, slightly almond-like roundness. Birch then turns the whole thing towards tar and campfire smoke, and that smoke stays to the end over vetiver.

About the original

Kilian launched Light My Fire in autumn 2014 in the Addictive State of Mind trio, alongside Intoxicated and Smoke for the Soul. Press coverage at the time credited Sidonie Lancesseur, though some databases name a different perfumer. Of the three, it was the one marketed to both men and women. It is not part of Kilian's current Smokes range, which lists Smoking Hot, Back to Black, Dark Lord, Musk Oud and Pearl Oud, and several retailers show it as unavailable.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Kilian Paris stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Cumin is the deciding factor here. People who enjoy a raw, smoky tobacco with an animal warmth will find a lot in it, while those who prefer clean or sugary tobacco may struggle with the opening and the tar-like birch drydown.

The opening is spicy and a little feral: cumin and hay, with tobacco leaf giving a dry, cured edge.

Honey, vanilla and heliotrope come through in the heart and take the rough edges off, without ever making it a gourmand.

The drydown belongs to birch smoke, backed by vetiver, patchouli and tonka bean.

Is Kilian Light My Fire discontinued?

It no longer appears in Kilian's official Smokes range, and retailers such as Selfridges list it as unavailable. We have not seen an official statement from the brand.

Does Light My Fire smell of cumin?

Yes, clearly at the start. It can read slightly sweaty for a short while before hay, tobacco and honey take over.

How does it compare with Kilian Smoking Hot?

Smoking Hot (2023) is sweeter, built on apple hookah and vanilla. Light My Fire is drier and smokier, with cumin and birch.

Is Kilian Paris Light My Fire coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Kilian Paris that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
