Nisean, inspired by Parfums de Marly Nisean (2016)

Nisean begins peppery and tart, pink pepper over grapefruit and lime. Saffron and rose form the heart, with geranium adding a minty, green-rose facet and labdanum a sticky, ambery resin. Olibanum, another name for frankincense, threads a dry smoke through the middle. Patchouli, amber and cedar make the base woody and balsamic.

About the original

Parfums de Marly launched Nisean in 2016, naming it after the Nisean horse, an ancient breed, in keeping with the house's equestrian names. The brand themed it on these horses. No perfumer is reliably credited. It is absent from Parfums de Marly's current European and US ranges and listed as unavailable by stockists, though no brand statement has been found.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Parfums de Marly stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Nisean is a spiced rose with incense, balanced by citrus at the top. Listings variously call it unisex, masculine or feminine. In the drydown, labdanum and patchouli give a dense, resinous feel that may be too heavy for fans of light florals.
