Saffron Lazuli
49,00 €
Emilie Coppermann’s saffron and rose study, with rosewood and pepper through the heart and a soft tonka vanilla finish. A Herrera Confidential gem, rebuilt at 40 percent perfume oil concentration.
A Rose Drenched in Saffron
If Mystery Tobacco showed what the Herrera Confidential collection could do with a familiar ingredient, Saffron Lazuli pushes further. Composed by Emilie Coppermann, it sits in the rich spicy rose corner of perfumery, the same territory occupied by some of the most beloved Middle Eastern style fragrances of the last fifteen years. Saffron, that golden orange spice with its leathery sweet character, is the star. Rose and rosewood frame it. A drift of pepper, a soft vanilla base, and you have a perfume that smells expensive without trying too hard.
How It Smells
Saffron leads from the opening, warm and slightly medicinal in the way the real spice always is, with the dried apricot leather quality that perfumers prize. Black pepper sharpens the edges for a moment before the rose comes in, dark and a little jammy rather than bright and dewy. Rosewood gives a pinkish, creamy lift through the heart, and tonka bean with vanilla starts to build the base. The drydown is comforting, suede textured, the saffron still present but quieter, the rose settling into the wood. It is the kind of scent that smells different on different skins, sometimes leaning more spice, sometimes more flower.
The Notes
Top: saffron, black pepper.
Heart: rose, rosewood.
Base: tonka bean, vanilla.
How Our Version Compares
Rose and saffron compositions benefit enormously from a high oil concentration, because the saffron note has a tendency to flash and fade in lighter formats. Our 40 percent perfume oil build keeps the saffron audible from the first hour into the last, and gives the rose enough depth to feel like a real flower rather than a sketch. Produced in the European Union to the same standards as the rest of our catalogue.
Common Questions
What does saffron smell like in perfume?
Warm, leathery, slightly bitter, with a dried fruit nuance underneath. It is more about texture and warmth than a clear spice flavour, and it pairs beautifully with rose and oud.
Is this similar to other rose saffron fragrances?
It belongs to the same family as classics like Black Afgano or modern hits like Oud Wood and various Amouage compositions, though the Confidential treatment is softer and more wearable than most.
What occasions does it suit?
Evening dinners, autumn weddings, cooler weather generally. The richness reads luxurious in restaurants and the cinema, perhaps too much for a hot office.
How is the projection?
Strong in the first two hours, then settling into a warmer, closer skin scent. A single spray on the chest is usually enough; two on a coat collar can carry across a room.
Can it be worn by men?
The composition is officially marketed as unisex through the Herrera Confidential line, and the spice and oud adjacent character makes it easy to wear regardless of gender. Saffron rose has a long tradition in masculine perfumery in the Middle East.
