Percival, inspired by Parfums de Marly Percival (2018)

Percival begins with a burst of citrus, bergamot and mandarin, sharpened by pink peppercorn. Its heart puts lavender beside iris, whose rooty, powdery tone gives the freshness an almost suede-like texture, with cardamom adding a cool spice. In the base, fir balsam brings a resinous, pine-forest note, while tonka bean, ambrox and white musks leave a clean, slightly ambery skin scent. Ambrox is a modern material with a dry, mineral, ambergris-like glow.

About the original

Percival arrived from Parfums de Marly in October 2018 and is sold by the brand as a masculine fragrance. The house describes it as refreshing, bright and versatile. Hamid Merati-Kashani is usually credited as the perfumer. Talk of a reformulation circulates online, but nothing from the brand confirms it.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Parfums de Marly stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Wearers who want a fresh, clean fougère rather than a sweet or smoky scent are the natural audience. The iris and musk leave a faintly powdery finish, which may not appeal if you prefer a crisp, purely citrus ending.
