Iris Prima

Iris Prima, inspired by Penhaligon's Iris Prima (2013)

Bergamot and pink pepper open Iris Prima, the pepper with a resinous, rosin-like quality. Iris absolute soon takes the lead, cool and powdery, with jasmine sambac lending a floral fullness. A suede accord evokes a ballet slipper. The drydown is sandalwood, vanilla, vetiver and benzoin, powdery and smooth.

About the original

Iris Prima was launched by Penhaligon's in 2013 and dedicated to the atmosphere of the ballet theatre. Alberto Morillas created it in collaboration with English National Ballet soloists Laurretta Summerscales and Nathan Young. It is an eau de parfum, and it appears to have been marketed as unisex.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Penhaligon's stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Iris fans looking for a powdery, polished composition rather than an earthy, rooty iris will find it appealing. Powder and suede run through every stage, which can read as cosmetic to some noses.

We have not been able to confirm whether Penhaligon's still produces Iris Prima.

It was created with two English National Ballet soloists, and its notes evoke rosin, suede ballet slippers and the theatre.
