Oud & Bergamot

Oud & Bergamot, inspired by Jo Malone London Oud & Bergamot Cologne Intense (2010)

Bergamot and orange open crisply, and for a short while it reads almost like a classic cologne. Oud then rises through the citrus, smoky and resinous, carrying the faintly animalic edge the brand itself mentions. Cedarwood keeps the middle dry and straight. In the base, black musk and a touch of praline round off the smoke, so the finish is darker without turning harsh.

About the original

Christine Nagel created Oud & Bergamot for the first Cologne Intense collection in August 2010, alongside Amber & Patchouli, Rose Water & Vanilla and Iris & White Musk. At launch it was available in only 35 stores. It is still in the Cologne Intense range today and appears in the brand's current Cologne Intense sets. Velvet Rose & Oud is a different scent from the same line.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Jo Malone London stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Compared with traditional oud perfumes it is lighter and led by citrus, which makes it a gentler introduction to the note. It is still clearly smoky, so it will not suit people who avoid smoke in fragrance.

Cedarwood forms the heart, dry and pencil-like, as the oud starts to show through.

Oud dominates the base, softened by black musk and a slight praline sweetness.

Is Oud & Bergamot very smoky?

Yes, though it is lighter than most oud perfumes. The citrus top and musky base keep the smoke in proportion.

Is it the same as Velvet Rose & Oud?

No. Velvet Rose & Oud is a separate Cologne Intense built around rose. We make both.
