Sakura, inspired by Acqua di Parma Signatures of the Sun Sakura (2019)

Citrus comes first, bergamot with yellow mandarin, and pink pepper adds a light sparkle. Cherry blossom then takes the centre as a pale, airy floral, the flower rather than the fruit. Jasmine sambac, a greener and more tea-like jasmine than the usual kind, keeps it fresh. Musk finishes it cleanly.

About the original

Acqua di Parma launched Sakura in 2019 as one of five new scents for its Signatures of the Sun collection, alongside Camelia, Osmanthus, Vaniglia and Yuzu. Each fragrance in that line centres on a single ingredient, and Sakura took its theme from Japanese cherry blossom. No perfumer has been published. It no longer appears in the brand's UK or US ranges, and several retailers list it as sold out.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Acqua di Parma stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Light and transparent, it was presented by retailers as a fresh daytime floral suited to spring. A buyer after a rich or sweet floral may find the musky finish too slight.

Does Sakura smell of cherries?

No. It is built on cherry blossom, the flower, so it reads as a light floral rather than a fruity cherry scent.

Is Acqua di Parma Sakura coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Acqua di Parma that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
