Scandal By Night, inspired by Jean Paul Gaultier Scandal By Night (2018)

Honey is the thread that runs through this one, from the first spray to the last trace on skin. Bitter orange and citrus give the opening a little bite, then tuberose takes over with orange blossom and a ripe note of cherry and pear. Spikenard (jatamansi), an earthy, slightly rooty Himalayan oil, keeps the flowers from turning too pretty. The base is dense and sweet: tonka bean, vanilla and patchouli, with sandalwood and white musk underneath.

About the original

Jean Paul Gaultier released Scandal By Night in July 2018 as the first flanker of Scandal, which had appeared the year before. The campaign carried on the Scandal story of a high-ranking official who heads to Pigalle once night falls. Launch material kept the honey of the original and added tuberose and tonka bean, and bottles are labelled Eau de Parfum Intense. The darker bottle shades from pink to purple. It no longer appears in the brand's Scandal range, which now lists Scandal Intense, Scandal le Parfum, Scandal Absolu and Scandal Elixir.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Jean Paul Gaultier stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Evenings, dinners and colder months are where it makes sense. It is opulent and very sweet, so anyone who prefers light or fresh scents should look elsewhere.

Bitter orange and a citrus accord open over a layer of honey, which is noticeable from the first minutes.

Tuberose leads the heart, rounded by orange blossom, cherry and pear, while spikenard adds a muted, earthy shade.

The drydown settles on tonka bean, vanilla and patchouli, softened by sandalwood, amberwood and white musk.

How is Scandal By Night different from the original Scandal?

Both are built on honey, but By Night adds tuberose, tonka bean and patchouli for a darker, richer evening version. We also make the original Scandal.

Is Jean Paul Gaultier Scandal By Night discontinued?

It no longer appears in Jean Paul Gaultier's Scandal range, which now lists Scandal Intense, Scandal le Parfum and other versions. Jean Paul Gaultier has not announced its withdrawal.

Is it very sweet?

Yes. Honey, vanilla and tonka bean dominate, with tuberose as the main flower.

Is Jean Paul Gaultier Scandal By Night coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Jean Paul Gaultier that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
