Aromatics In White, inspired by Clinique Aromatics in White (2014)

Violet leaf opens it with a green, cucumber-like coolness, and Sichuan pepper adds a tingling, almost citrus spice. Cistus, a shrub whose resin gives an ambery, faintly leathery tone, sits just beneath. Rose water and orange flower form a clean, transparent heart, shaded by patchouli. The finish is musky and powdery, with benzoin, a vanilla-scented resin, and ambergris giving it a gentle glow.

About the original

Clinique launched Aromatics in White in Europe at the end of 2014, with a Selfridges exclusive in the UK from 5 December, and in the US in 2015. It is credited to Nicolas Beaulieu. As the first of the modern Aromatics Elixir flankers it was followed by Aromatics in Black in 2015. Clinique speaks of serene woods and transparent petals over amber notes, and the scent is sweeter and lighter than the herbal 1971 original.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Clinique stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Its texture is airy at the top and soft and powdery in the base, and it is lighter and sweeter than Aromatics Elixir. The pepper and violet leaf keep it from being simply pretty. Some may find the musk and benzoin drydown too powdery.

Is Aromatics in White like Aromatics Elixir?

It shares the name, but it is lighter and sweeter. Elixir is herbal and earthy, while White leans on rose and orange flower over musk.

Which is softer, Aromatics in White or Aromatics in Black?

White is the airier, more powdery of the two. Black is fruitier and more resinous, with osmanthus and myrrh.
