Urban Musk

Urban Musk, inspired by Tom Ford Urban Musk (2009)

Ambrette seed, a plant source of musk with a pear-like, slightly winey tone, sets the character early, alongside green-tinged jasmine sambac. White pepper and cumin add a faint spice and a skin-like saltiness. White honey and black plum then deepen it into something golden and gently sweet. The drydown is benzoin and musk, a gauzy amber with a hint of incense smoke.

About the original

Urban Musk was released in autumn 2009 in Tom Ford's Private Blend White Musk Collection, next to Musk Pure, Jasmine Musk and White Suede. One reviewer at launch called it more beige than white. Its notes include a Tonkin musk headspace, a reconstruction of the scent of natural musk. The brand's US and UK sites no longer list it, and the US trademark for the name was cancelled in 2017.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Tom Ford stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Wearers who want warmth and some sweetness in a musk are its natural audience. It feels like warm skin and honey rather than soap. Cumin and the animalic musk can feel too intimate for those who like their musks sterile and clean.

Jasmine sambac and ambrette open it, with white pepper and cumin giving a dry, spiced edge.

Honey and black plum come through in the heart, rounded and amber-coloured.

Benzoin, incense and musk make up the base, soft and gauzy.

Is Tom Ford Urban Musk discontinued?

It is no longer listed in Tom Ford's Private Blend range, and the US trademark lapsed in 2017. No official announcement has been found.

How does it differ from White Suede and Musk Pure?

Urban Musk is warmer and more honeyed, with honey, plum and cumin. Musk Pure is powdery, and White Suede (still sold) is a separate scent.

Does it smell of cumin?

Cumin is listed and adds a slightly salty, skin-like tone, alongside white pepper.

Is Tom Ford Urban Musk coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Tom Ford that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
