Arabian Wood, inspired by Tom Ford Arabian Wood (2009)

Despite the name, Arabian Wood contains no oud. It opens herbal and green, with lavender, galbanum and rose over bergamot and freesia. Rose returns in the heart, joined by orris, gardenia and jasmine, which give a soapy, powdered floral feel. Oakmoss and patchouli then take it into chypre territory, mossy and earthy over cedar, sandalwood and amber.

About the original

Rodrigo Flores-Roux created Arabian Wood for Tom Ford's Private Blend in 2009, first for the Middle East market. The original was reportedly withdrawn around 2013. Tom Ford reissued it in 2019 in the Private Blend Reserve Collection in a 250 ml bottle, with essentially the same notes. The UK site currently shows that edition as sold out, and it does not appear in the Private Blend listing.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Tom Ford stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Lovers of classic chypres, or of the barbershop style some wearers detect here, will feel at home with it. It is floral, mossy and grown-up. Anyone expecting a smoky oud or a sweet amber may be surprised by how green and soapy it is.

Lavender, galbanum and bergamot open it with a green, herbal brightness, joined by freesia, orange blossom and two kinds of rose.

Gardenia, jasmine, ylang-ylang and honey enrich the heart, with rose and orris giving a soapy, powdery tone.

Patchouli, oakmoss, cedar and sandalwood form the base, with amber and tonka bean adding depth.

Does Tom Ford Arabian Wood contain oud?

No. It is a woody chypre of rose, oakmoss and patchouli, not an oud fragrance.

Is Tom Ford Arabian Wood discontinued?

The 2009 original was reportedly withdrawn around 2013. The 2019 Reserve edition is shown as sold out on Tom Ford's UK site.
