The Moon, inspired by Frédéric Malle The Moon (2019)

Red fruit comes first: raspberry and lychee, glossy and a little jammy, with saffron giving a leathery spice. Frankincense soon drifts through the fruit, and Turkish rose links the two halves. Frédéric Malle likens the berry facet to the smoke of a fruit-flavoured hookah, which is a fair picture of how sweet and smoky sit together. Oud and leather form the base.

About the original

Julien Rasquinet created The Moon in 2019 as the fourth volume of Frédéric Malle's Desert Gems collection. According to the brand and its retailers, the name comes from 'my moon', an Arabic term of endearment. It is a different scent from The Night (2014) by Dominique Ropion, which belongs to the same collection.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Frédéric Malle stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Fruit and oud make an unusual pairing, and that contrast is the point. Sweetness inside a dark, smoky scent is not to everyone's taste, and the oud base can feel heavy going for newcomers.

Is The Moon the same as The Night?

No. Both belong to Frédéric Malle's Desert Gems collection, but The Moon (2019) is a fruity amber with oud, while The Night (2014) centres on a very high dose of natural oud. We make both.

Is The Moon sweet?

The opening is noticeably fruity and sweet from raspberry and lychee. Incense, oud and leather keep the later stages darker.
