Vaniglia, inspired by Acqua di Parma Signatures of the Sun Vaniglia (2019)

Citrus comes first: bergamot and mandarin, with neroli giving a slightly bitter, petal-like edge. Heliotrope, a flower with an almond and powder tone, sits alongside them and leads into the vanilla. Jasmine sambac sits beside the vanilla in the heart. The finish settles on cedarwood and musk.

About the original

Acqua di Parma presented its Signatures of the Sun collection in September 2019, and a Vaniglia Eau de Parfum was among its first scents, sold in 100 ml and 180 ml bottles in the collection's black Art Deco-style flacon. The house had earlier made a separate Colonia Vaniglia, an Eau de Cologne Concentrée sold only at Harrods from 2018, so the name can refer to either. Retailer descriptions single out Madagascan vanilla as the core of the 2019 scent. Vaniglia is no longer listed in the official UK or US Signatures of the Sun range, and Acqua di Parma has not published a withdrawal date.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Acqua di Parma stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Vanilla lovers who want citrus and jasmine around the note are the natural audience, since retailers present it as a citrus-lifted vanilla rather than a heavy dessert scent. It still centres on vanilla, so anyone who dislikes that note altogether should look elsewhere.

Which Vaniglia is this: the 2019 Eau de Parfum or the 2018 Colonia Vaniglia?

Our reference is most likely the 2019 Signatures of the Sun Eau de Parfum, which was the widely sold version. The 2018 Colonia Vaniglia was a separate Harrods-only Eau de Cologne Concentrée.

Is it a very sweet vanilla?

Retailers present it as a citrus-lifted vanilla rather than a heavy dessert scent, with jasmine, cedar and musk around it. It is still vanilla-led, so expect some sweetness.

Is Acqua di Parma Vaniglia coming back?
