Want, inspired by Dsquared2 Want (2015)

Want starts with a spiced citrus accord: ginger and pink pepper sparkle over mandarin. The heart pairs damask rose with heliotrope, whose almond-like sweetness gives the scent a powdery, slightly nutty tone, and neroli keeps it airy. Two vanillas, from Madagascar and an absolute, then take over with dry woods underneath. The result is comforting and cosmetic-powdery, not dessert-sweet.

About the original

Aurélien Guichard composed Want, which Dsquared2 released in October 2015 as a women's eau de parfum. A year later the brand added Want Pink Ginger, a spicier, fruitier flanker by the same perfumer. Fragrance references list Want as withdrawn, and it is absent from Dsquared2's current fragrance pages.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Dsquared2 stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

A good fit for someone who likes vanilla but finds gourmand perfumes cloying. The spice at the start is mild and the drydown powdery, so lovers of crisp, fresh scents may find it too cosy.

Ginger and pink pepper give a light, tingling spice, rounded by mandarin.

Damask rose and heliotrope make up the heart, with neroli adding a clean floral lift.

How is Want different from Want Pink Ginger?

Pink Ginger keeps the same rose, heliotrope and vanilla core but adds mangosteen, lemon and amberwood, making it livelier and spicier.

Is Want a gourmand?

Not really. Vanilla dominates the base, but it reads powdery and comforting, nothing like a dessert.

Is Dsquared2 Want discontinued?

It has disappeared from Dsquared2's site, and perfume databases record it as withdrawn.

Is Dsquared2 Want coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Dsquared2 that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
