Royal Oud

Royal Oud, inspired by Creed Royal Oud (2011)

Creed's take on oud starts with grapefruit and cardamom, a pairing that feels zesty and slightly cool. Angelica, a herb with an earthy, musky root, joins geranium to give the middle a green, peppery-rosy texture. Oud then arrives with incense, smoky and resinous, sweetened a little by benzoin and grounded by cedar. The house calls it luminous, and the citrus does keep the wood from feeling dense.

About the original

Royal Oud dates from 2011, according to fragrance databases, and remains in Creed's range as an Eau de Parfum. The perfumer has not been confirmed from an official source. It is a different fragrance from Creed's Royal Princess Oud and Oud Zarian, and unrelated to Royal Mayfair despite the shared prefix. Giorgio Armani also sells a scent called Oud Royal, which has no connection to this one.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Creed stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Database voters lean towards autumn and office wear for it. The smoke and incense in the base are noticeable, so it is a poor match for someone who dislikes resinous notes.

Moderately. The oud comes with incense, so the drydown is smoky and resinous, but grapefruit and cardamom keep the opening lively.
