Very Irresistible Man, inspired by Givenchy Very Irrésistible Givenchy for Men (2005)

Cool mint and grapefruit peel lead, a pairing that reads clean and aromatic rather than sporty. Within a short while the mood shifts towards the kitchen: sesame seed gives a toasted, nutty tone and mocha adds a coffee shade that fades fairly quickly. What stays is a dry, pale woodiness of hazelnut wood and Virginia cedar. A review from the launch year described it as soothing and snuggling.

About the original

Givenchy launched Very Irrésistible Givenchy for Men in 2005 as the men's counterpart to the women's Very Irrésistible of 2003. It is usually credited to perfumer Pierre Wargnye, and the eau de toilette came with aftershave and bath products in the same line. Other men's versions, such as Fresh Attitude and Intense, also existed; this page takes the 2005 eau de toilette as its reference. The men's scent no longer appears in Givenchy's current UK or US ranges, while the women's Very Irrésistible is still sold.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Givenchy stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Men who find most aromatic fragrances too brisk may like the way this one drifts into nuts and wood. Buyers hoping for a pronounced coffee fragrance could be disappointed, since the mocha recedes early and the finish is woody.

Grapefruit peel and mint open it, cool and slightly bitter. Some listings also add star anise, which would give a faint liquorice note.

Sesame seed and mocha form the heart, toasted and a little sweet, with the coffee side fading first.

The base is hazelnut wood and Virginia cedar, dry and nutty with a pencil-shaving woodiness.

Is Givenchy Very Irresistible for Men discontinued?

It no longer appears in Givenchy's men's range in the UK or the US, and retailers list it as unavailable. Givenchy itself has made no announcement that we can find.

Does it smell of coffee?

There is a mocha note in the heart, but it is brief. Most of the wear is nutty and woody.
