Au Masculin, inspired by Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin (2000)

Au Masculin is built around licorice and anise, the black-sweet, slightly medicinal pairing familiar from confectionery and pastis. Violet and green ivy sit alongside, while absinthe and basil add a herbal bitterness that keeps it from tipping into candy. Rum, almond, praline and tonka bean bring gourmand sweetness to the middle. Sandalwood, cedar, vetiver and labdanum (an ambery resin) frame the base, with vanilla binding it together.

About the original

Annick Menardo created Au Masculin as the men's counterpart to Lolita Lempicka's women's fragrance; most sources date it to 2000, one to 2001. Flankers followed, including L'Eau au Masculin (2010), Eau de Minuit (2012) and an EDP Intense (2015). Lempicka Homme (2018), a licorice scent by the same perfumer, is reported to be its successor and a modernised reworking of the Au Masculin idea; it is not presented as the same formula. This page follows the original eau de toilette.

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Lolita Lempicka stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Licorice decides it: readers describe the note as very strong, which delights anise fans and puts others off quickly. Praline and rum also give it a rich, gourmand side.
