Vanille Planifolia, inspired by Guerlain L'Art & La Matière Vanille Planifolia Extrait 21 (2023)

Madagascar vanilla dominates from the start, dark and a little boozy rather than candied. Guerlain macerates the vanilla cold in alcohol for 21 days, hence the name, and spices give it bite. Opopanax, a resin also known as sweet myrrh, adds a balsamic, faintly powdery amber underneath. Musk smooths the finish, and some writers detect an almond facet.

About the original

Vanille Planifolia Extrait 21 launched in November 2023 as one of six Les Extraits Signature in Guerlain's L'Art & La Matière collection. Its companions are Rose Centifolia, Iris Pallida, Bergamote Fantastico, Jasmin Grandiflorum and Tonka Sarrapia. Each is built on one raw material of the Guerlinade, the house's traditional accord. Guerlain credits only its in-house perfumers, and the original is sold as a 30% extrait.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Guerlain stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Rich, liqueur-like vanillas are its strength, with spice and resin giving it depth. It is dense and sweet, though, so those after an airy, fresh scent should look elsewhere.

No. The original is a 30% Extrait de Parfum; ours is an eau de parfum inspired by it.
