Sauvage Elixir, inspired by Dior Sauvage Elixir (2021)

Grapefruit gives a brief flash of the familiar Sauvage freshness before the spices take over: cinnamon, nutmeg and cardamom, thick and almost liqueur-like. Lavender from Nyons in Provence runs through the heart, and Dior points to a vanilla-tinged coumarin facet that rounds it off. Licorice is the unusual touch in the base, a dark, slightly sweet root note set against sandalwood and patchouli. Haitian vetiver keeps the finish from becoming syrupy.

About the original

Dior released the Elixir in 2021 with François Demachy as perfumer, presenting it as an unusually concentrated version of Sauvage. Rather than simply amplifying the original, it shifts the balance away from pepper and ambroxan towards spice, lavender and licorice. The bottle is lacquered in midnight blue, and the scent remains part of Dior's current Sauvage range alongside the lighter versions.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Dior stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Reviews place the original mainly in autumn and winter and describe it as very strong. Its spice-and-licorice density can feel heavy in warm weather, and fans of the fresh Eau de Toilette may find it a very different scent.

Grapefruit and cardamom give a short fresh lift at the start, quickly overtaken by cinnamon and nutmeg.

Lavender forms the heart, herbal and slightly sweet, with the spices still wrapped around it.

Licorice and sandalwood lead the base; patchouli and vetiver dry it out, while amber keeps it rounded.

How is the Elixir different from Sauvage Eau de Toilette?

The Eau de Toilette is peppery and fresh with an ambroxan base. The Elixir is built on warm spices, lavender and licorice, and is far denser and darker.

Is Sauvage Elixir sweet?

Moderately. Cinnamon, licorice and the coumarin facet of the lavender give it a rich, slightly sweet tone, but vetiver and patchouli stop it tipping into gourmand territory.

Is the Elixir the same as Sauvage Parfum?

No. Sauvage Parfum (2019) centres on mandarin, sandalwood and vanilla, whereas the Elixir (2021) is spicier and more aromatic. We make both.
