Balade Sauvage, inspired by Dior Balade Sauvage (2018)

Picture a cliff path lined with fig trees above the sea: that is the image Dior gives for Balade Sauvage. Bergamot and petitgrain (the bitter, leafy oil from orange tree twigs) open it with a clean citrus snap. The fig is green and milky rather than jammy, set against ozonic and sea notes that add an airy, salted feel. Underneath, a pebble accord and amberwood give the impression of sun-heated rock.

About the original

Balade Sauvage belongs to Dior's exclusive Maison Christian Dior line, also known as La Collection Privée, and is usually credited to François Demachy. Fragrance references date it to 2018, though one source gives 2017. Dior links it to the Aeolian island of Panarea, describing citrus, sea breeze, volcanic stone and rockrose. Despite the name, it has nothing to do with the men's Sauvage or Eau Sauvage. Dior has also offered a body cream and soap under the same name.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Dior stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Its whole character is summery and coastal, in line with Dior's Mediterranean theme. It is light and dry, so anyone wanting a sweet or creamy fig may find it too mineral and austere.

Bergamot, petitgrain and ozonic notes open bright and airy.

Fig and fig tree notes take the heart with sea notes, orange blossom and hedione (a transparent, jasmine-like material), with touches of rose and peach.

A pebble accord, amberwood, labdanum and a little vanilla make up the base: dry, stony and faintly resinous.

Is Balade Sauvage related to Dior Sauvage?

No. Balade Sauvage is a fig and citrus scent from Dior's private collection; the men's Sauvage is a separate fragrance, which we also make.

Is Dior still making Balade Sauvage?

We have not been able to confirm whether Dior still produces it.

Does it smell sweet?

Only slightly. Fig and peach add some softness, but citrus, sea notes and the mineral base keep it dry.
