Eau Sauvage, inspired by Dior Eau Sauvage (1966)

Eau Sauvage opens with lemon and bergamot sharpened by basil, rosemary and a touch of caraway, so the citrus smells herbal rather than sweet. At its heart is hedione, a molecule with a transparent, airy jasmine smell, which gives the scent its glowing quality alongside coriander and carnation. The drydown turns chypre (a structure built on citrus over oakmoss): oakmoss and patchouli with vetiver, slightly bitter. It feels refined rather than sporty.

About the original

Edmond Roudnitska composed Eau Sauvage for Dior in 1966. It is cited as the first perfume to use hedione, the jasmine-like molecule at its centre, and early advertising featured Alain Delon. Despite the shared word, it is a different fragrance from Dior's Sauvage of 2015. The Eau de Toilette remains in Dior's range today.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Dior stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Its citrus-and-moss character fits anyone who likes the classic eau de cologne style but wants more depth. Because the base is mossy and unsweetened, it may not appeal to those who prefer sweeter modern fresh scents.

Is Eau Sauvage the same as Dior Sauvage?

No. Eau Sauvage (1966) is a citrus chypre built on bergamot, hedione and oakmoss. Sauvage (2015) is a peppery fresh scent with an ambroxan base, and we make both.
