Zino Davidoff, inspired by Davidoff Zino Davidoff (1986)

Zino starts herbal and slightly woody, with lavender and clary sage set against the rosy timber of Brazilian rosewood and a touch of bergamot. A floral heart follows, rose and geranium in the lead, jasmine and lily-of-the-valley keeping it rounded. It reads as dense and polished rather than fresh. In the base, patchouli and sandalwood carry most of the weight, and vanilla gives the cedar a faintly balsamic sweetness.

About the original

Davidoff launched Zino Davidoff in 1986, naming it after the company's founder. Michel Almairac is usually credited as the perfumer. It is often sold simply as Zino, and it is a fragrance distinct from Davidoff's Zino accessories and cigars. Its structure follows the classic 1980s masculine pattern: aromatic top, floral heart, rich woody base.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Davidoff stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Retailers present it as an evening scent for cooler weather, and its patchouli and vanilla base supports that. The floral heart and rich, old-school build may feel dated to someone used to modern fresh scents.
