Battito D'Ali, inspired by Profumum Roma Battito d'Ali (2010)

Orange blossom opens it, honeyed and almost candied, more confection than garden. Cocoa powder follows, dry and slightly bitter, which tempers the sugar. Myrrh, a resin with a smoky, faintly medicinal and soapy character, comes through as it develops and gives the base its depth, while vanilla smooths the edges. It ends balsamic and dusky.

About the original

Profumum Roma created Battito d'Ali in 2010; the name translates as 'beating of wings'. It remains in the Roman house's current range. The composition is unusually short, with the house listing just orange blossom, cocoa powder, myrrh and vanilla, and some sources also mention coconut.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Profumum Roma stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Gourmand fans who want something less obvious than caramel or praline should try it. It is dense and sweet. The opening can strike some noses as bubblegum-like, and the myrrh drydown has a soapy, resinous side.

Is it very sweet?

Yes, especially at the start. Cocoa and myrrh add bitterness and resin as it dries down.
