Changing Constance

Changing Constance, inspired by Penhaligon's Changing Constance (2018)

Two spices open Changing Constance: cardamom, cool and almost eucalyptus-like, and pimento, which is allspice, hotter and clove-like. Within minutes salted caramel moves into the heart, sweet but cut with a savoury, salty edge. The base turns woody with cashmeran, a musky synthetic wood, plus tobacco and vanilla. Sweetness is a defining feature from heart to drydown.

About the original

Changing Constance launched in June 2018 in the Portraits collection, introduced together with The Blazing Mister Sam. Penhaligon's describes it through cool cardamom, hot pimento and salted caramel, with a tobacco accord among its key notes. In 2026 the brand added Changing Constance Intense, a separate flanker. This page refers to the original eau de parfum.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Penhaligon's stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Gourmand fans will find the salted caramel the main draw. Tobacco and woods temper the caramel without hiding it, so a dislike of obvious sweetness is reason for caution.

Is this the original Changing Constance or the Intense?

The original, launched in 2018 as an eau de parfum. Changing Constance Intense is a separate 2026 flanker.

How sweet is Changing Constance?

Clearly sweet. Salted caramel is the heart note, and vanilla returns in the base, though the spice and tobacco give it some structure.
