Elixir D'Amour, inspired by Parfums d'Elmar Elixir d'Amour

Saffron and pink pepper start it with a leathery spice, while green fig leaf and bergamot keep the top from feeling closed in. Bulgarian rose and raspberry arrive next, lightened by lily of the valley and water jasmine, with guaiac wood adding a smoky line. The base is where most of the weight lies, burnt caramel and vanilla over amber, oud and labdanum. Once it settles it is unmistakably sweet.

About the original

Elixir d'Amour comes from Parfums d'Elmar, a small Swiss house, which sells it as a 60 ml extrait de parfum. Retailers and blogs credit Mark Buxton as the perfumer, though the brand's own page does not name him. Its launch year is unclear, with sources giving either 2018 or 2022.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Parfums d'Elmar stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Sweet-tooth wearers who like an ambery, gourmand base will be at home with it, and one blog places it in autumn and winter evenings. The caramel and vanilla are pronounced, and the oud adds a dark edge that may not suit someone after a light floral.
