Guidance, inspired by Amouage Guidance (2023)

Guidance opens with ripe pear and toasted hazelnut, and frankincense runs under both from the first spray, so the fruit never turns sugary. Saffron brings a leathery, honeyed spice to the heart, where rose and jasmine sambac sit close to osmanthus, a flower with an apricot-and-tea smell. Akigalawood, a patchouli-derived material with a peppery, woody tone, gives the base some grain beneath the vanilla.

About the original

Amouage presents Guidance as a new reading of the rose, frankincense and ambergris combination that runs through its history. Released in February 2023 as part of the third chapter of Amouage's Odyssey collection, it is credited to perfumer Quentin Bisch. The brand lists several awards for it, including Best Niche Fragrance 2024 from the French Fragrance Foundation. A separate Guidance 46 Exceptional Extrait came later; this page refers to the original eau de parfum.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Amouage stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

It suits people who find many incense scents austere and want something rounder, and Amouage positions it as unisex. The nutty, vanilla side gives it a comfortable feel. Some will find the pear and hazelnut opening a little sweet if they dislike gourmand touches.

At first pear and hazelnut lead, the pear crisp and the hazelnut roasted, with frankincense adding a resinous lift.

The heart is floral and spiced: saffron alongside rose and jasmine sambac, with osmanthus giving a faintly fruity, leathery nuance.

Later it settles on sandalwood and vanilla, with cistus and akigalawood for depth and ambergris giving a salty, musky finish.

What is the difference between Guidance and Guidance 46?

Guidance 46 is a separate Exceptional Extrait that Amouage released later. Our version is based on the original Guidance eau de parfum from 2023.

Is Guidance sweet?

Moderately. Pear, hazelnut and vanilla give it a gentle sweetness, but frankincense and saffron stop it from reading as a dessert scent.
