Opera, inspired by Xerjoff Opera (2014)

Opera starts fruity and rosy, the Turkish rose given a ripe, glossy lift by fruit notes. Leather and amber soon move to the front, spiced with nutmeg and rounded by ylang-ylang, a heady tropical flower. The drydown turns woody: Virginia cedarwood and Haitian vetiver give it a dry, slightly sharp frame, with patchouli and vanilla underneath.

About the original

Opera belongs to Xerjoff's Vibe collection, sold by many retailers as the V-Collection. Xerjoff describes it as sophisticated and aristocratic. It launched in 2014 as Sospiro Opera, from Xerjoff's sister line, and fragrance references credit Chris Maurice as the perfumer. Xerjoff now sells it under its own name in the Vibe collection. It is easily mixed up with Ouverture from the same collection, or with other houses' fragrances called Opera.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Xerjoff stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Rich and dense, it is suggested for cold evenings in one review on a fragrance site. Some wearers find it heavy, and the cedar can come across as sharp in the drydown, so it may not appeal to anyone who prefers quiet, airy scents.

Partly. The fruity top and vanilla base add sweetness, while vetiver and cedarwood keep the drydown fairly dry.
