Two peppers and mandarin give a spiky, citrus-flecked start, while cistus adds a resinous, leathery edge straight away. Patchouli takes over in the middle, earthy and damp, partnered by leather and the clove-like spice of carnation. The base deepens with labdanum and styrax, both sticky balsamic resins, and castoreum, a note with a dark, leathery, animal character.

Electimuss, an independent London house, makes Patchouli of the Underworld at pure parfum strength. The official page names Kevin Mathys as perfumer and mentions a second, unnamed perfumer. The brand describes a dark, mysterious patchouli that is earthy, raw and animalic, inspired by the myth of Pluto and Persephone. No launch year has been confirmed.
