Amber & Patchouli, inspired by Jo Malone London Amber & Patchouli Cologne Intense (2010)

Patchouli sets the tone: earthy, damp and slightly sweet, like a forest floor. Guaiac wood adds a smoky, resinous dryness, a wood often compared to tar or charred timber. Amber sits beneath both, warming the blend and softening its earthier edges. The impression is deep and woody throughout, spiced rather than floral.

About the original

Amber & Patchouli launched in 2010 in Jo Malone's Cologne Intense collection, the brand's richer line of colognes, and is usually credited to Christine Nagel. A separate limited Huntsman Amber & Patchouli Cologne is reported to have appeared in 2018. It is not the same as Dark Amber & Ginger Lily or Amber Labdanum, the amber Cologne Intense scents the brand still lists. Amber & Patchouli itself no longer appears in Jo Malone London's range, and customers reported it being withdrawn around 2016.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Jo Malone London stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Its depth makes it a natural pick for those who enjoy patchouli and smoky woods. Jo Malone presents it as unisex. Patchouli has a distinctly earthy, sometimes musty quality that some people dislike.

Is Jo Malone Amber & Patchouli discontinued?

It no longer appears in Jo Malone London's range, though the brand has not announced its withdrawal.

Is this the Cologne Intense or the Huntsman edition?

We take the 2010 Cologne Intense as the reference. The 2018 Huntsman Amber & Patchouli Cologne was a separate limited edition. Our version is an eau de parfum.

Is it the same as Dark Amber & Ginger Lily?

No. Dark Amber & Ginger Lily is a different Cologne Intense scent, which we also make.

Is Jo Malone London Amber & Patchouli coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Jo Malone London that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
