White Patchouli

White Patchouli, inspired by Tom Ford White Patchouli (2008)

White Patchouli strips the note back. The patchouli is prominent but cleaned up, with none of the damp, earthy heaviness the material can have. Bergamot, coriander and peony open it with a fresh, faintly spicy lift, and rose with night-blooming jasmine fills the heart. Ambrette seed, a plant source of musk, adds a smooth, skin-like quality, and incense gives the woody base a smoky finish.

About the original

Released in 2008, White Patchouli was Tom Ford's second mainstream women's fragrance after Black Orchid. It belonged to the main line rather than Private Blend and came as an eau de parfum alongside body products. It is a different scent from the Private Blend Patchouli Absolu (2014). Tom Ford no longer lists it, and John Lewis states that it is no longer available and unlikely to be restocked.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Tom Ford stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Restrained and smooth, it sits between a floral and a chypre, and without vanilla it can come across as slightly masculine to some wearers. Fans of earthy or amber-sweetened patchouli may find it too spare.

Is White Patchouli discontinued?

It has dropped out of Tom Ford's current range, and John Lewis says it is unlikely to receive more stock. We have not seen a formal announcement.

Is it the same as Patchouli Absolu?

No. White Patchouli is the 2008 women's scent from the main line; Patchouli Absolu is a 2014 Private Blend with moss and leather. We make both.

Is White Patchouli sweet?

No. It has no vanilla, and the patchouli is smooth and clean rather than sugary.

Is Tom Ford White Patchouli coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Tom Ford that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
