Vanilla Royale Sugared Patchouli, inspired by Kayali Vanilla Royale Sugared Patchouli | 64 (2022)

Vanilla orchid and golden rum open it with a boozy sweetness, and a thread of jasmine keeps the first minutes from feeling monotonous. Then the vanilla deepens into crème brûlée and tonka, with a spiced rose and smoky leather cutting through the sugar. The base explains the name: patchouli sweetened with brown sugar, lying on amber and a touch of oud. It stays dense and very sweet from start to finish.

About the original

Kayali introduced Vanilla Royale on 16 November, in 2022 according to retailer reports, and its launch blog called it a limited edition. It has since stayed on kayali.com as a regular product in the full run of sizes. The brand positions it as a richer, darker sister to Vanilla | 28, its original vanilla. Credits for the perfumer differ between sources, so we have not named one. Retailers sell the original as an Eau de Parfum Intense.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Kayali stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Heavy gourmands are the reference point here, and this is the richer, darker step up from Vanilla | 28. The sweetness is considerable and the texture thick. Smoky leather and oud give it a shadowed undertone that a simple bakery vanilla lacks.
