Pour Un Homme, inspired by Caron Pour Un Homme de Caron (1934)

Two notes do almost all the work: lavender and vanilla. Lavender and lavandin, a hybrid with a more camphorous, herbal bite, give the top its aromatic freshness. Rose appears in the heart to ease the transition, while vanilla rises beneath, rounded out by amber and musk. The result is clean and herbal on top, smooth and gently sweet underneath.

About the original

Pour Un Homme dates from 1934 and is traditionally attributed to Ernest Daltroff, the founder of Caron. Caron presents it as the first fragrance created specifically for men and describes the pairing of lavender and vanilla as bold. The house, founded in 1904, has since added a Parfum version and Pour Un Homme Gitana, both separate from the original eau de toilette.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Caron stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

The vanilla gives it a comforting drydown that also appeals to many women, even though Caron markets it to men. Lavender leads, and buyers who associate it with soap may struggle with the opening.
