Tam Dao, inspired by Diptyque Tam Dao (2003)

Cedar opens it with a dry, slightly acrid bite, the pencil-shaving side of the wood. Cypress and myrtle bring a green, resinous freshness like evergreen needles. Sandalwood then rises and stays, smooth and milky, with nothing sugary around it. The mood is restrained throughout.

About the original

Daniel Molière created Tam Dao for Diptyque in 2003 as an eau de toilette. Tam Dao is a hill station in Vietnam, and the scent draws on co-founder Yves Coueslant's memories of the country. An eau de parfum version followed later and is a different, denser take. Our version follows the original eau de toilette.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Diptyque stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Someone wanting a straightforward sandalwood will find it calm and uncluttered. The cedar opening can feel acrid for a few minutes, and there is no vanilla or amber to cushion the woods.

Is this the Tam Dao eau de toilette or eau de parfum?

The eau de toilette from 2003. Diptyque's later Tam Dao eau de parfum is a different, denser version.

Is Tam Dao sweet?

No. It is a dry sandalwood with cedar and cypress, and the official notes include no vanilla or amber.
