New Look, inspired by Dior New Look (2024)

Aldehydes dominate the start, in what Dior calls an overdose: a fizzy, soapy lift with a metallic chill. Frankincense comes up through them, resinous and slightly smoky, like a candle that has just been put out. Amber gradually fills out the base without adding much sugar. It stays cool and composed throughout.

About the original

Francis Kurkdjian created New Look for La Collection Privée Christian Dior in 2024, naming it after Christian Dior's 1947 New Look silhouette and Bar suit. Dior describes it as an overdose of aldehydes with frankincense opening into amber. An earlier Dior scent, New Look 1947 (2010, François Demachy), was a sweet floral of tuberose, jasmine, iris and vanilla and no longer appears on dior.com. Our version is modelled on the 2024 New Look.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Dior stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Few people are lukewarm about it. Its waxy, metallic aldehydes divide opinion, and anyone looking for a sweet or floral Dior would be better served elsewhere in the range. It is aimed at admirers of abstract, incense-led perfumes.

Not really. It is built on aldehydes, frankincense and amber, so it reads as cool and resinous rather than flowery.
