Musk Pure, inspired by Tom Ford Musk Pure (2009)

Musk Pure begins with white pepper and bergamot, a brief prickle before the flowers take over. Jasmine sambac, ylang-ylang and lily of the valley sit close together, more powder than petal. Orris absolute, the extract of iris root, gives the heart its dry, cosmetic softness. The finish is benzoin and tonka, a vanillic, resinous sweetness, with beeswax adding a honeyed, slightly waxy texture to the musk.

About the original

Tom Ford released Musk Pure in autumn 2009 as part of the Private Blend White Musk Collection, a set of four eaux de parfum that also included Urban Musk, Jasmine Musk and White Suede. A reviewer at the time found it the most unisex of the four, with benzoin and tonka at its core. It no longer appears on Tom Ford's official US or UK sites. White Suede, its sister in the collection, remains in the current range.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Tom Ford stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Its natural audience is musk lovers who prefer powder and resin to a soapy, freshly laundered effect. One early writer found a sharp, clean-laundry edge in it, so those who dislike that style of musk may want to test the drydown first.

Notes: Ylang-ylang, White Pepper, Bergamot, Jasmine Sambac, Lily Of The Valley, Orris Absolute, Tonka Bean, Benzoin, Beeswax, Musk

White pepper and bergamot open it with a little sparkle, quickly giving way to ylang-ylang and jasmine sambac.

Lily of the valley and orris absolute make the heart powdery and cool, the musk already showing through.

Tonka, benzoin and beeswax form the base: vanillic, resinous and faintly honeyed.

Is Tom Ford Musk Pure discontinued?

It no longer appears in Tom Ford's Private Blend range on the brand's US and UK sites. Tom Ford has not announced a withdrawal date.

Is Musk Pure the same as White Suede?

No. Both came from the 2009 White Musk Collection, but White Suede is a separate fragrance that Tom Ford still sells and that we also make.

Is it a floral or a musk?

Mainly a musk. Jasmine, lily of the valley and orris are present, but benzoin, tonka and musk dominate.

Is Tom Ford Musk Pure coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Tom Ford that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
