Peony & Blush Suede, inspired by Jo Malone London Peony & Blush Suede Cologne (2013)

Red apple gives it a crisp, crunchy start before the peonies open fully. Peony stays at the centre of the floral heart, filled out by rose and jasmine and by gillyflower, a carnation relative with a light clove scent. The base is a pale suede accord, smooth rather than leathery, which gives the finish a skin-like feel. Neither the apple nor the flowers take over.

About the original

Christine Nagel developed Peony & Blush Suede for Jo Malone London, and it launched in September 2013. It was announced as a fruity floral for women, but the brand sells it, like its other colognes, as unisex. It has become one of the house's best-known colognes and features in many gift and discovery sets. The brand suggests combining it with Nectarine Blossom & Honey.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Jo Malone London stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Romantic is the obvious word for it, and it sits comfortably with people who like rosy, polished florals. The apple is noticeable at the start, which matters if fruit notes in perfume tend to bother you.

This page is Peony & Blush Suede, the 2013 cologne with apple and suede. Peony & Moss was a separate 2012 limited edition with ivy and moss, which we also make.

Does it smell of leather?

Not really. The suede note is pale and smooth, closer to soft fabric than to a leather jacket.
