Grapefruit, inspired by Jo Malone London Grapefruit Cologne

Grapefruit peel, with a little of the bitter pith left in, gives the opening a tang that stops short of sourness. Rosemary then moves forward, herbal and slightly camphorous, so the scent reads more aromatic than fruity. Moss beneath lends an earthy, damp-green finish. Each of its few notes does what its name promises, with nothing added for decoration.

About the original

Grapefruit is one of the longer-standing scents in Jo Malone London's core cologne line, though we have not found a reliable launch date. The brand describes it as uplifting and lists grapefruit, rosemary and moss as its key notes. Like the other colognes, it is sold as unisex, and the brand suggests pairing it with other scents from its range.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Jo Malone London stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Someone who reaches for citrus mainly for its freshness will find it easy to wear. It stays light and dry, with no sweetness to speak of. Rosemary and moss make it herbal rather than fruity, which can disappoint anyone hoping for a candied grapefruit.
