Neroli Portofino Acqua, inspired by Tom Ford Neroli Portofino Acqua (2016)

Acqua is a sheerer, airier take on Neroli Portofino. Petitgrain, distilled from the leaves and twigs of the bitter orange tree, gives the lemon and bergamot a slightly green, twiggy edge. Neroli and orange blossom sit underneath as a translucent floral veil rather than a heady bouquet. The finish is amberwood and white musk, dry and clean, with nothing resinous or sugary about it.

About the original

Tom Ford announced Acqua in January 2016 as a spring addition to the Private Blend Neroli Portofino collection, built on the original Neroli Portofino of 2007. It arrived the same season as Neroli Portofino Forte, a denser sibling. Launch coverage disagreed on the concentration, though it is generally listed as an eau de toilette. Acqua no longer appears in Tom Ford's current range, while Neroli Portofino itself, in eau de parfum and parfum, is still sold.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Tom Ford stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Riviera warmth is the brand's own framing, so it makes most sense in hot weather. It reads as a crisp citrus cologne with a floral middle, and buyers wanting an ambery base or any obvious sweetness will find it too spare.

It was launched as a lighter, airier version of the 2007 scent, keeping the citrus and neroli structure over a sheerer amberwood and musk base.
