Ginger leads with a zesty, almost lemony lift. Nutmeg follows, earthier and drier, smelling of the whole seed rather than of baking. Beneath them sandalwood lays down a smooth, milky base and cedarwood keeps it upright. The brand calls the pairing unexpected and addictive, and the contrast between fresh root and dusty spice is what defines it.

About the original

Jo Malone London calls Nutmeg & Ginger 'our first fragrance', although its exact launch year is not documented in the sources we checked. It reportedly left the regular range around 2017. It has since returned in the brand's Archive Collection, sold exclusively online. As with the other colognes, the house presents it as unisex and designed to be combined with its other scents.

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Jo Malone London stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Spice lovers who find most ginger scents too fizzy, or most nutmeg ones too heavy, will appreciate the balance. It is dry and woody with no fruit or flowers to cushion it. Buyers hoping for sweetness will not find it here.
