Joy, inspired by Dior JOY by Dior (2018)

Bergamot and mandarin open in a sparkling citrus burst that fades into the floral centre within minutes. Grasse rose and jasmine carry the heart, with peach and cassis adding a gentle fruitiness that never tips into sweetness. Below them is a pale base of white musk and sandalwood, given some depth by patchouli and benzoin, a vanilla-like resin. It feels radiant and tidy from start to finish.

About the original

François Demachy created JOY by Dior, which launched in late August 2018. It is a different fragrance from Jean Patou's Joy of 1930, despite the shared name. Dior frames it around a citrus top and what it calls a white heart of flowers and musks. The house also makes a flanker, JOY Eau de Parfum Intense, which is a separate scent.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Dior stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Fresh and well put together, it suits someone who wants a floral without drama. The musk keeps it smooth, with little powder and no smoke. Lovers of dramatic, heavy roses may find it rather restrained.

JOY by Dior, launched in 2018. Jean Patou's Joy from 1930 is a different, much older perfume.

A little. Peach and cassis sit in the heart, but rose and jasmine lead and the overall feel is floral and musky.
