Safari Women, inspired by Ralph Lauren Safari for women (1990)

Galbanum, a plant resin with the smell of a cut green stalk, dominates the first impression and colours everything that follows. Blackcurrant bud and hyacinth add a tart, cool edge before narcissus arrives with its hay-like depth. Jasmine, rose and orange blossom fill out the middle without making it sweet. The finish is dry and grassy, with vetiver and cedar holding the structure upright.

About the original

Dominique Ropion created Safari for Ralph Lauren in 1990. Its large dose of galbanum is the feature most often singled out. The name causes some confusion, because Safari for Men (1992) is an entirely different scent built on lavender and leather, and that one is still sold. The women's version is no longer listed on Ralph Lauren's fragrance site, although a listing could still be found on ralphlauren.com in 2025.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Ralph Lauren stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Anyone who likes vintage-style green florals will recognise its shape straight away. Its character is green and dry rather than lush or glamorous. Next to a powdery or vanilla-led floral, that bitter opening can feel austere.

Galbanum opens with a leafy bitterness, joined by blackcurrant bud, hyacinth and a little mandarin and marigold for lift.

Narcissus gives the heart its slightly animalic, hay-like texture. Jasmine, rose and orange blossom sit beside it, while orris and rosemary keep the bouquet dry and herbal.

The base is vetiver and sandalwood, with patchouli, amber and cedar adding a quiet woody depth.

Is Ralph Lauren Safari for women discontinued?

It no longer appears in Ralph Lauren's fragrance range. A listing was still visible on ralphlauren.com in 2025, so some remaining stock may exist.

Is this the women's Safari or the men's?

The women's, from 1990. Safari for Men (1992) is a separate lavender and leather fragrance.

Is it a sweet floral?

No. The galbanum and vetiver keep it green and dry, and the flowers never turn sugary.

Is Ralph Lauren Safari Women coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Ralph Lauren that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
