Acqua, inspired by Roberto Cavalli Acqua (2013)

Lemon and a cool, watery accord open the scent, but it quickly becomes about flowers. Jasmine and lily-of-the-valley give a clean white floral, dewy rather than heady. Musk carries it through to the end. Despite the name it is more floral and musky than marine, and the comparison most people reach for is freshly washed hair.

About the original

Roberto Cavalli launched Acqua in 2013 as a lighter flanker of the Roberto Cavalli Eau de Parfum from 2012, and it was presented as the turquoise successor to that scent. Louise Turner is credited as the perfumer. It is the only Cavalli fragrance with this name, so it should not be mixed up with Just Cavalli or other brands' Acqua editions. The brand's current perfume page no longer lists it.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Roberto Cavalli stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Wearers point to spring and summer for it, especially someone who finds big white florals cloying. It is clean and fairly simple, so buyers looking for depth or sweetness may find it plain.

The top is citrus and water: lemon over a cool, transparent accord, with jasmine already present.

Lily-of-the-valley takes the heart and gives the scent its fresh, green-floral clarity.

The drydown is musk, quiet and close, with the floral notes fading into it.

Is Roberto Cavalli Acqua discontinued?

It is no longer listed on Roberto Cavalli's perfume page, and fragrance databases report it as withdrawn.

Does it smell aquatic?

Only lightly. The watery note is in the opening, and most of the scent is jasmine, lily-of-the-valley and musk.

How does it relate to the Roberto Cavalli Eau de Parfum?

It was released as a lighter flanker of that 2012 fragrance, with a fresher, cleaner floral profile.

So far, we have found no announcement from Roberto Cavalli that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
