Boss Bottled Oud Saffron, inspired by Boss Bottled Oud Saffron (2019)

Saffron sets the tone straight away, a dry, leathery spice with a faintly metallic shine, and rose gives it a deeper floral roundness. Labdanum, a resin from the rockrose shrub, then thickens the middle with an ambery, slightly sticky richness. Agarwood, the material behind the word oud, provides the woody base. Hugo Boss itself called the scent a spicy take on the classic Bottled Oud.

About the original

Hugo Boss launched Boss Bottled Oud Saffron in January 2019, first through a UK department store, as a limited flanker of the 2015 Boss Bottled Oud. It arrived together with a second flanker, Boss Bottled Oud Aromatic. The launch material describes a 100 ml eau de parfum, although some retailers have labelled it an eau de toilette. We found no perfumer credit for it, and as a limited edition it is no longer made.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Hugo Boss stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Wearers of Boss Bottled Oud who want more spice are its obvious audience. Saffron and labdanum give it a dense, ambery feel, so a buyer who dislikes oud or resinous scents should approach with care.

Is this the same as Boss Bottled Oud?

No. Boss Bottled Oud Saffron is a 2019 limited flanker of the 2015 Boss Bottled Oud, with saffron, rose and labdanum added to the oud theme. We also make the original Boss Bottled Oud.

Was the original an eau de parfum or an eau de toilette?

The launch information gives the original as a 100 ml eau de parfum, though a few retailers called it an eau de toilette. What we make is our own eau de parfum, in 50 or 100 ml.

Is Boss Bottled Oud Saffron coming back?

It was a limited edition. So far, we have found no announcement from Hugo Boss about a re-release. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
