Bottega Veneta, inspired by Bottega Veneta Eau de Parfum (2011)

Bergamot and pink pepper make a brisk, spiced entrance, but the scent quickly settles into its real shape: jasmine resting on leather and moss. The leather here is suede-like rather than tarry. Oakmoss, a lichen with a damp, forest-floor smell, and patchouli give the base its earthy depth, which is what makes it a chypre. Nothing about it is sugary.

About the original

Bottega Veneta launched this eau de parfum in July 2011 as its first fragrance, made with Coty under creative director Tomas Maier and composed by Michel Almairac. The brief described a room with old wood floors, library walls and leather-bound books, its windows open onto cut grass and hay. A limited extrait in Murano glass also existed, and later versions included Eau Légère and Eau Sensuelle. The brand quietly discontinued the collection in 2021, Coty's licence ended in 2022, and the 2024 relaunch under Kering Beauté is an entirely new line.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Bottega Veneta stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Someone who owns a good leather bag and wants a perfume to match is the obvious wearer. It feels composed and quietly rich rather than loud. The mossy, patchouli-heavy base can come across as earthy or old-fashioned to anyone used to clean musks.

Bergamot opens with a clean citrus snap, and pink pepper adds a dry, rosy spice.

Jasmine forms the heart, kept from turning heady by the leather that already shows beneath it.

The base is leather, oakmoss and patchouli: earthy, mossy and faintly bitter, with the smooth feel of worn suede.

Is the 2011 Bottega Veneta Eau de Parfum discontinued?

Yes. Bottega Veneta discontinued its Coty-era fragrances around 2021, and the 2024 collection does not include it.

Is this Eau Légère or Eau Sensuelle?

Neither. Our version is inspired by the original 2011 eau de parfum, the leather chypre that started the line.

Does it smell of leather?

Yes, though gently. The leather is suede-like and sits with oakmoss and patchouli rather than smoke.

Is Bottega Veneta coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Bottega Veneta that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
